Dakota Mk III FZ667
271 Squadron detachment from RAF Down Ampney
A welcome cotribution to the RAF Blakehill Farm archive from project follower Mark Haywood who was researching the loss of this aircraft on behalf of an aquantaince.
During the D Day re-supply operation "Rob Roy", aircraft from "A" Flight 271 Squadron Down Ampney diverted to Blakehill due to congestion at the nearby 46 group base on the evening of the 7th June 1944.
Dakota FZ667 left the runway at 22:26 loaded with supplies which were dropped in the correct DZ (drop zone).
Tragically on their return to base, the aircraft were fired upon by allied shipping mistaking them for enemy aircraft.
